ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C Aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators in Northeast South Dakota, take note!

The Northern Innovation and Startup Center will present two programs designed to empower those looking to bring their business ideas to life. The Center, established in late 2022, is committed to fostering innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.

The first workshop is scheduled from 3:30-5 p.m. Sept. 21 in the Beulah Williams Library at Northern State University. The Ideation Workshop is a collaborative, hands-on event tailored to inspire and guide individuals on¡­

ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C This fall, more students chose Northern State University to continue their education. Northern has experienced growth this fall consistent with enrollment figures released today by the South Dakota Board of Regents.

Northern's headcount stands at 3,521 students, 5.3 percent higher than fall 2022. First-time freshmen increased 6.7 percent to 319 and full-time-equivalency (FTE) increased 2.7 percent to 1,725.

ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C Northern State University will host the sixth annual All-State Orchestra Workshop with the Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony.

The free workshop, open to all South Dakota high school students, will take place 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, in the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center.

During the first hour, students will work with AUCS faculty and principal musicians. Then, they will sit with AUCS members and read through the repertoire for All-State Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Christopher Stanichar.

ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C The Northern State University Department of Music will hold its annual Faculty Showcase Recital on Thursday, Sept. 14.

The showcase will be held in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater, beginning at 7:30 p.m. and featuring an array of solo and chamber performances by the talented NSU music faculty.

¡°This recital is always something the music faculty looks forward to,¡± said Dr. Kenneth Boulton, dean of the School of Fine Arts. ¡°It also represents the official opening event of our exciting 2023-24 season.¡±

ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C High school strings players are invited to join the inaugural Northern Honors Orchestra.

The orchestra, organized at Northern State University, consists of two fun-filled days of rehearsals and making connections with string players across the Upper Midwest. The event takes place Jan. 12 and 13, 2024 at the Johnson Fine Arts Center on the Northern campus.

Students get to ¡°delve deeper into string techniques while getting to know fellow string peers,¡± said Dr. Christopher Stanichar, director of orchestras at Northern.

ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C Northern State University has earned the 2023-2024 Military-Friendly School designation.

Institutions earning the Military Friendly? School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. More than 1,800 schools participated in the 2023-2024 survey with 665 earning special awards for going above the standard.
